Children are the eyes of the future
I’m riding through the paddy fields soaked with the gloaming.
This exactly feels like how a village supposed to be feels like. Green and blue
everywhere and the residential areas also situated evenly and nicely. This is
not one of your traditional villages but an amalgamation of a traditional agro
based village and a more modern residential area.
The main income generation of the people of Gallalla is
agriculture. Paddy cultivation is common to this area but one of the main
income generation means is by cultivating minor export crops such as nutmeg,
clove, pepper and arecanut. Almost every home garden has a nutmeg plantation.
Aside from that as my friend Roshan explained, there are many people of
Gallalla are attached to the government service as well.
We made a pit stop at one of the council members of
Pradeshiya Sabha, Mrs. Nanda Wijekoon to have a cup of tea and have a chat. And
when we go to her house, there were few other people there, enjoying a
conversation. I like this type of setups. Instead of people keeping themselves
within their own walls, they actually meet other people of the village and have
friendly chats and an evening tea together.
Mrs. Nanda introduced me the Grama Sewaka officer
of the area as well as few other neighbors. As it seems they all are active
members of the Praja Mandala.
